TED LEO AND THE PHARMACISTS
Sealed with a Kiss and CLUB 9ONE9 are proud to present the return of Matador recording artists
TED LEO and the Pharmacists
September 7th, 2010
Tickets $15/ $17
Doors 9pm
Maybe the dilapidated garages and all-ages clubs of the East Coast post-hardcore scene of the late 80s is a fitting place to begin our story. That’s where the chronicle of our era’s ever-humble valedictorian, Ted Leo, really gets interesting, anyway. It was here in bands Citizen’s Arrest and Animal Crackers (and later as the main song writer in Chisel) that Ted developed a sharpened political prowess, an assiduous commitment to his Gibson ES-335, an ear for melody, and charisma contagious enough to be considered chemical weaponry. A mod-punk savant in an age where punk (like practically everything intangible we’ve ever expressed interest in) has been replaced by product. With his latest, "Living with the Living," Ted Leo delivers that existentialist ethos to a new crop of rude boys.
Come out and show ted some love....

CRASH TEST DUMMIES
Plus Guests
There is no mistaking Brad Roberts' voice. He may look like an average guy, now in his mid- 40s, but then he opens his mouth and his majestic baritone voice immediately conjures fond memories of such Crash Test Dummies hits at "Mmm, Mmm, Mmm, Mmm" and "Superman." Perhaps best remembered for the acerbic folk rock sound of 1991's The Ghosts That Haunt Me and 1993's God Shuffled His Feet, there have nonetheless been enough hits for the band over the years to merit a couple of greatest hits packages. Through it all, the band with Roberts at the helm has touched on funk and soul, folk, electronic music and even Christmas tunes. Yet it is Roberts' voice and offbeat lyrical sensibility that have been this beloved band's calling cards since their founding twenty years ago.

TOKYO POLICE CLUB
Presented by Atomique Productions and The Zone 91.3
Plus The Arkells and The Meligrove Band
For a band that burst on the scene with an ecstatically received 16 minutes of music (2006's A Lesson In Crime EP) followed in rapid fire succession by additional EPs and singles (Smith, “Your English Is Good”) and a debut album (2008’s Elephant Shell) all in under two years time, you’d think 26 months between albums would be an interminabl...e wait. And it might well have been for Tokyo Police Club, had they not toured relentlessly in support of that first album through August of 2009 — and started writing new songs virtually the second their previous record was put to bed.
So the nine month gap between the close of that tour and the June 8 release of Champ, Tokyo Police Club’s second full length album and first for the mom+pop label, has been anything but boring or unproductive.

HOLY F*CK
SEALED WITH A KISS PRESENTS..
HOLY FUCK
w/ Indian Jewellery & ClipD Beaks
Doors @ 9PM - 2AM
Tickets $15 in advance
We often say casually that bands are “awesome” without thinking about the true meaning of the word – Holy Fuck actually inspire awe. Pitchfork
With high praise from peers, critics, big name endorsements and ascension on festival bills, Holy Fuck have the divine right to be profane. And with respected music luminaries Thom Yorke and Lou Reed passing on kind words about studio recordings and live performances, it’s no wonder Holy Fuck have become sought after.
Toronto’s Holy Fuck creates dance music that careens off the grid yet possesses a ragtag sense of discipline…(the band) galvanizes with rambunctious grooves that’ll make you shake your can and cause you to wonder why more techno doesn’t fizz with this kind of raw, triumphant energy. XLR8R
